Top story

Brendan Allen submitted Christian Leroy Duncan with a rear-naked choke in the fifth round of the UFC Vegas 122 main event at Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday (UFC.com, MMA Fighting). UFC.com puts the finish midway through the round; we did not find the exact time in the sources we read. Referee Marc Goddard took a point from Duncan in the second round for an eye poke, MMA Fighting reported. It is Allen's fourth straight win, per MMA Fighting, and UFC.com says it earned him a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Allen said afterward that he wants a title shot or a fight with former champion Dricus du Plessis, but that he is not chasing du Plessis (MMA Fighting). In the standard UFC.com rankings snapshot we took at 22:53 UTC Sunday, Allen is still No. 4 at middleweight and Duncan No. 10, as they were listed before the fight; the UFC may update the table later.

Corrections and still current

Sean Strickland said on Friday he will not fight or sign a contract until his pay situation is resolved (MMA Fighting, Oct. 9). Allen was asked about it on Saturday: "hats off to Sean for speaking up, for trying to get more money," he said (Bloody Elbow, Oct. 11). We found no UFC comment.

Confirmed

Other results from UFC Vegas 122: Jai Herbert beat Matheus Camilo by unanimous decision in the co-main event, and Loopy Godinez beat Ketlen Souza by unanimous decision (Sherdog). Andre Fili knocked out Kai Kamaka III with a head kick in round two, and Otari Tanzilovi knocked out Malcolm Wellmaker with a head kick in round two (UFC.com, Sherdog). On the prelims, Julius Walker stopped Gerald Meerschaert with strikes in round two (MMA Fighting), Niko Price stopped Leon Shahbazyan in round one with ground strikes, and Alice Pereira won when Daria Zhelezniakova retired on her stool after round one (UFC.com). UFC.com says nine of the 12 fights ended in finishes. We did not find finish times for these bouts or any other bonus winners in the sources we read.

Gerald Meerschaert retired after the loss to Walker, his sixth straight, in his 60th pro fight and 27th in the UFC (MMA Fighting). Niko Price also retired after his win; UFC.com says the bout was a retirement fight offered by matchmaker Sean Shelby after Price's earlier loss to Michael Chiesa.

Michael Page signed a multi-fight deal with Misfits Boxing, announced in the ring in London on Saturday by KSI. No debut date or opponent has been announced (MMA Fighting, Bloody Elbow). MMA Fighting says Page's UFC deal expired after his September win over Nursulton Ruziboev and the UFC did not re-sign him.

Goddard said on social media on Sunday that he deducted the point from Duncan because he had gone over the rules with both fighters before the bout; MMA Fighting quotes his statement. Allen had complained about eye pokes in clinches in round one, MMA Fighting reports.

Jon Jones told The Schmo that missing the UFC White House card is one of the biggest regrets of his life and that he believes it was probably his last time in the cage (MMA Fighting, Oct. 11). Earlier, on X, he said he will more than likely not fight again but is still in the drug-testing pool (MMA Fighting, Bloody Elbow, Oct. 10).

Reported, not yet official

Former UFC fighter Tim Kennedy was shot three times in the leg while working private security in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, per a Reuters report as relayed by MMA Fighting. The report says his team was ambushed in mid-September with 20 casualties, seven of them deaths, and that he is being treated at Walter Reed in Maryland. Bloody Elbow ran a message from Anderson Silva to Kennedy referring to the ambush. We did not read the Reuters piece directly, and neither the UFC nor Kennedy has commented in anything we read.
